SUPERINTENDENT’S BRIEFING
The Superintendent’s Student Leadership Conferences (SSLC) were held recently with 368 student leaders from district middle and high schools convening at the Berry Center . The theme of this year’s conference was “Making a Difference.” Dr. Anthony said he shared with the students some of his thoughts and ideas about leadership and challenged them to make a positive difference on their respective campuses. He said both days were very enjoyable as he was able to interact and observe a group of students who represent the outstanding students throughout the district. The students worked with their principals to design an action plan to improve the overall climate and cultural experiences on their campus. The next SSLC will be held in the spring to discuss outcomes and results of their action plans.
Celebrate Freedom Week in Texas was celebrated this week as CFISD students participated in special activities designed to increase awareness and understanding about the sacrifices made for freedom in the founding of this country and the values on which this country was established. This special emphasis occurs in conjunction with the Nov. 11 Veterans’ Day observance as our community and nation expressed gratitude to those who have dedicated their lives serving in the branches of the military to provide safety and well-being for the citizens of this nation. Some of the activities focus on the American Revolution, the nation’s founding fathers, the Constitutional Convention, and the U.S. flag. Elementary students have opportunities to learn about “We the People” and our Bill of Rights from the Declaration of Independence.
Schools will be closed the week of Nov. 20-24 in observance of the Thanksgiving holidays. Support facilities, including the Instructional Support Center will close Nov. 22-24. Dr. Anthony said he would like to wish all students and employees a relaxing and safe holiday as we take this time to reflect on the many freedoms and blessings we enjoy in this country.
The naming of schools after exemplary employees who have made outstanding contributions to education is a time-honored tradition in this district. Dr. Anthony congratulated namesake Mr. T.A. “Bubba” Willbern on the celebration of his 80 th birthday. A celebration was held in his honor at Willbern Elementary Nov. 10 in conjunction with a special Veterans’ Day celebration. Mr. Willbern served on the U.S.S.
