Why did you choose to live in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD? We moved to his area specifically for the high quality of education being offered.
Why are you running for the school board? I am running for the school board to support and promote the high standards and quality education offered to our students.
What skills do you possess that uniquely qualify you to assist in setting policy and making decisions regarding a $305 million budget? I have three years experience as a CFISD trustee and seventeen-plus years of experience in supply, marketing, and distribution in dealing with multimillion dollar contracts, budgets, planning and forecasting, analysis, and personnel issues.
What will your goals be as a member of the school board, and how will you accomplish them as one of seven trustees? My goals are:
-
to continue to improve the quality of education offered to our students;
-
to raise expectations and close the achievement gap at all levels of education;
-
to ensure that all students have equal access to educational assets and programs;
-
to maintain a high level of discipline and security in our schools;
-
to involve parents and community in the decision-making process;
-
to hire and retain quality personnel; and
-
to support our teachers and administration in accomplishing these goals.
I will work openly and honestly with my fellow board members, the administration, and community in accomplishing these goals.
If elected, what do you plan to change or improve about the district, and how do you plan to bring about this change? As stated above, I will always work to improve the quality of education offered to our students. No single board member can make changes or improvements on his or her own; it is a team effort, working in conjunction with the other board members and the administration. I will promote, encourage, and support positive changes and improvements.
What challenges face Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in the near future (the term of your office), and how will you personally address them? The passing of a 1998 bond election is very important to our school district to meet immediate and future needs. I will work with the administration and the Bond Steering Committee to ensure that a viable bond package is presented to the community.
What do you feel are the major issues facing school districts in Texas today? Issues facing school districts in Texas are as diverse as the school districts themselves. Major issues facing school districts such as ours will be rapid student growth, school funding, finance issues, building needs, and the $1.50 tax cap for maintenance and operations. Providing quality education, meeting technological needs, and the hiring and retaining of quality teachers and staff remain at the forefront of issues to be addressed. |
