Completed Construction Projects:
  • Agricultural Centers - Built on district property on Eldridge Road, adjacent to new transportation center site. The agricultural center was designed by CLR Architects and built in conjunction with the new transportation center.

    A second agricultural center was also built on district property on Telge Road, adjacent to the Exhibit Center. CLR Architects designed the center. Sharing the site on North Eldridge adjacent to Cypress Ridge High School, the district’s fourth transportation center and first ag farm opened in December 2004. Both facilities share similar design traits and color scheme with the neighboring high school. The second ag farm was built on Telge Road and will be identical to the first ag facility except that it will share similar design traits and color schemes with the neighboring security building and exhibit center.

  • Andre' Elementary School - Opened in August 2006, Andre' Elementary is located at Fry and Longenbaugh roads and was designed by SHW Group, Inc.  At the March 2005 board meeting, trustees approved the construction contract award to Gamma Construction Co. in the amount of $9,293,550.   The recommended contract award is $1,065,450 under the established construction budget included in the 2004 Bond Program. Andre' relieves Duryea, Jowell, and Walker.

  • Berry Center & Athletic Stadium - Built on a 65-acre site at Barker Cypress and West Road. As a result of combining both facilities on the same site, the district realized a savings by sharing the parking lot. PBK Architects along with their design consultant, HOK Sport Venue presented the final design to the board in June 2003. The project was awarded to Spaw Glass in the amount of $72,897,808.00. The project was completed in March 2006, and the Educational Support Center will hold graduation for the graduating senior class of 2005/2006.

  • Birkes Elementary - Opened in August 2003, Barbara Birkes Elementary School is a modified version of the Kirk Elementary design. SHW Architects designed the school. Birkes Elementary is located near the corner of Queenston and West Roads adjacent to Aragon Middle School and was completed in June 2003. The school, not included in the 1998 bond election, is funded with savings from bond projects and interest income from the 1998 bonds. Birkes Elementary relieves Copeland, Fiest, and Lowery Elementary Schools. The final contract amount was $8,827,500 and was constructed by Purcell Construction.

  • Black Elementary School - Opened in August 2006, Black Elementary is located at Spring Cypress and Grant Road. This school was built from savings in construction costs and interest earned from the 2001 bond election. It was designed by PBK Architects, Inc.  At the April 2005 board meeting, trustees approved the construction contract award to Drymalla Construction Company as part of the combined construction contract for Black and Postma elementaries totaling $20,347,000. Black relieves Farney, Robison, and Keith.

  • Bradley Security Building - A contract for $1,065,200 was awarded to Smith Commercial Contracting for the construction of the district’s new security building. The funding for the construction was made possible through interest earnings and project cost savings from the 1998 bond election. The project was completed in March 2002.

  • Carlton Center - Opened in August 2006, the new building replaces the previous facility and was built in conjunction with Cypress Woods High School for cost savings.

  • Cypress Lakes High School - Trustees approved the administration’s recommendation that High School No. 10 be located west of Highway 6 and south of FM 529, and be designed by PBK Architects, with an opening date of August 2008. High school No. 10 was originally scheduled to open for the 2009-2010 school year; however due to the high level of growth in the southwest part of the district, there is a need to provide enrollment relief for Cypress Springs High School for the 2008-2009 school year. The colors for Cypress Lakes are red and silver. The school mascot is the spartan. Cypress Lakes opened in August 2008.

  • Cypress Ranch High School - Trustees approved the construction contract for High School No. 9 and Elementary School No. 46, to be located on the 130 acre multi-campus site at Fry Road and Cypress North Houston, to Pepper-Lawson Construction, L.P. in the amount of $68,673,095.00. The contract amount is $162,855.00 under budget. High School No. 9 is a repeat design of Cypress–Woods High School with design modifications and is scheduled to open for the 2008-2009 school year. Since this campus is located on a multi-school site with Warner Elementary and a future middle school, the exterior design will be complimentary to the elementary school in terms of brick color and aesthetics. The colors for Cypress Ranch are navy and gold. The school mascot is the mustang. Cypress Ranch opened in August 2008.

    • Both high schools were designed by PBK Architects, Inc. with modifications to existing plans used in the construction of Cypress Woods, Cypress Ridge and Cypress Springs high schools. Each new school will have a modified footprint which includes the relocation of the library above the main lobby. Both facilities will feature their own unique color scheme and front entry design. New mandates from the Texas Education Agency require additional square footage for the science labs and library from previous high school designs which are incorporated into the final designs.

      Cypress Ranch is expected to provide enrollment relief for Cypress Woods High School and other adjacent high schools to be determined while Cypress Lakes is expected to provide enrollment relief for Cypress Springs and other high schools.

      The Board approved the swimming pool option 2 for high schools #9 and #10 which consists of a six-lane, 25-yard practice pool constructed at Cypress Lakes and an eight-lane, 25-yard meet pool with a five-lane, warm-up pool area at Cypress Ranch. Constructing the meet pool allows CFISD to host larger swimming competitions such as district meets and tri and quad meets in which three or four teams compete.

  • Cypress Ridge High School - Opened in August 2002, the school’s design is a repeat of Cypress Springs High School and is located on Eldridge Parkway and West Road near Traders Village. The school’s capacity is 3,000 students.

  • Cypress Woods High School - Opened in August 2006, CyWoods and the new Carlton Center are located at the 182 acre multi-school site at Spring Cypress and Skinner and were designed by PBK Architects, Inc.  The high school is a repeat of Cypress Ridge High School, which provided a reduction in architectural fees. Cy Woods has a capacity of about 3300.  

  • Danish Elementary School - Opened in August 2005, Thomas M. Danish Elementary School and LaFaye Johnson Lee Elementary School, represent the final two elementary schools approved in the 2001 bond election. PBK Architects, Inc. designed Danish Elementary School using similar plans used in the construction of Sampson, Ault, Gleason and Willbern elementary schools. The school was built on a 10.9-acre site along Fallbrook just west of F.M. 1960. Danish Elementary School is expected to provide enrollment relief for Adam, Emmott, Matzke, Millsap and Yeager.

  • Duryea Elementary - Opened in August 2004, Dr. Peggy Bell Duryea Elementary designed by PBK Architects, was built at Arbor Creek and Fry Road repeating the architectural designs used for Sampson and Gleason elementary schools with some modifications to the floor plan and main entrance. The Board awarded a contract in the amount of $8,501,800 to Satterfield and Pontikes Construction, Inc for construction of Dr. Peggy Bell Duryea Elementary School. The contract was approximately $1.1 million under projected construction costs.

  • Hemmenway Elementary - In February 2007, the Board of Trustees approved the construction contract to Purcell Construction in the amount of $11,506,000 for the construction of Elementary School No. 48. The school is located on West Little York Road, west of Fry Road, and opened in August 2008. The schools is modeled after Warner Elementary and is designed by PBK Architects, Inc.

  • Hopper Middle School - Opened in August 2007, Hopper is located at Fry Road on the southern portion of the Cypress Springs High School site, and was designed by Bay Architects. The Board also approved the administration’s recommendation to select the Construction Manager at Risk delivery method which, due to the need for an accelerated schedule to open Middle School No.15 one year early, this provided the district the best value to open this school for the 2007-2008 school year.  At the February 2006 board meeting, trustees approved the construction contract award to Purcell Construction in the amount of $24,422,526.

  • Instructional Support Center - West - Trustees awarded a contract in the amount of $3,473,000 to Purcell Construction, Inc. for the construction of the Instructional Support Center expansion. The expansion is to the north side of the facility and includes additional parking spaces for personnel. Funding for the expansion project was generated by interest earned and cost savings from 1998 bond projects. Construction was completed in July 2002.

  • Kahla Middle School - Opened in August 2005, Kahla is located on the 50-acre site on West Little York between Highway 6 and Queenston Blvd. The construction contract for Kahla Middle School was awarded to Purcell Construction in the amount of $18,988,000. This bid came in $1,262,000 under the amount originally budgeted for this project. This school was modeled after the plans for Goodson Middle School and was designed by Bay Architects.

  • Keith Elementary - Opened in August 2004, Gwen Wayman Keith Elementary, designed by CLR Architects, was built at Fairfield Green and Mason Road in the Fairfield subdivision with modifications to the architectural designs used in the construction of Walker and Robison Elementary. Variations in the designs for Keith Elementary include a different brick color and pattern as well as changes to the look of the main entrance.

  • Lee Elementary School - Opened in August 2005, LaFaye Johnson Lee Elementary School and Thomas M. Danish Elementary School,represent the final two elementary schools approved in the 2001 bond election. Bay Architects, Inc. designed Lee Elementary School using similar plans used in the construction of Tipps and Farney elementary schools. The school was built on a 13-acre site along West Little York east of N. Eldridge Parkway. Lee Elementary School is expected to provide enrollment relief for Bane, Gleason, Hairgrove, Horne, Kirk and Willbern.

  • McFee Elementary School - Opened in August 2007, McFee is located at Greenhouse Road and Plantation Cove Lane, and designed by Bay Architects.  At the February 2006 board meeting, trustees approved the construction contract award to Purcell Construction in the amount of $10,508,000.

  • Postma Elementary School - Opened in August 2006, Postma Elementary is located at West and Greenhouse roads and was designed by PBK Architects, Inc. Postma was funded from the 2004 Bond Program.  At the April 2005 board meeting, trustees approved the construction contract award to Drymalla Construction Company as part of the combined construction contract for Black and Postma elementaries totaling $20,347,000. Postma relieves Burkes and Lamkin.

  • M. Robinson Elementary - Opened in August 2008, M. Robinson Elementary is located on Westfield Village Road west of Fry Road, and was designed by SHW Group, Inc. The construction contract for M. Robinson Elementary School was awarded to Purcell Construction in the amount of $11,442,000. The school is modeled after Andre' Elementary School.

  • A. Robison Elementary - Opened in August 2003, A. Robison Elementary is located near the intersection of Skinner and Spring-Cypress roads. The Board awarded a contract to Drymalla Construction Company in the amount of $9,384,657 for the construction of Robison Elementary. CLR Architects designed this school. Robison Elementary relieves Ault, Farney, Lamkin, and Sampson Elementary Schools.

  • Sampson Elementary - Opened in August 2002, this school is located in Coles Crossing.  PBK Architects designed the school based upon Gleason Elementary School.  Sampson Elementary relieves Ault, Farney, and Lamkin Elementary Schools.

  • Spillane Middle School - Opened in August 2005, Carolyn Stamm Spillane Middle School, constructed by Gamma Construction Company in the amount of $22,600,000, was modeled after Aragon Middle School and was built as the second new building located on the 182-acre multi-school site at Jarvis and Skinner Road where Robison Elementary is located. Developed by SHW Group, Inc., it includes a practice swimming pool as well as a HVAC central plant that will serve all three schools that will be built at that site. The bid for this project was $3,545,000 less than the amount that was budgeted in the 2001 bond proposal.

  • Tipps Elementary - Opened in August 2003, Tipps Elementary is located on Queenston between West Little York and Kieth Harrow Boulevards. Purcell Construction was awarded this contract for $8,771,000, which is $729,000 under budget. The funds are from the 2001 bond election. Bay Architects modified the design of Farney Elementary. Tipps Elementary relieves Metcalf, Lieder, Sheridan, and Wilson Elementary Schools.

  • Transportation Center - Built on district property on Eldridge Road, adjacent to Cypress Ridge High School. CLR Architects designed the center, which opened in December 2004.

  • Warner Elementary School - Opened in August 2007, Warner is located on the 130 acre multi-campus site at Fry Road and Cypress North Houston, to Pepper-Lawson Construction, L.P. in the amount of $68,673,095.00. The contract amount was $162,855.00 under budget. Elementary No. 46 is a new prototype design developed by the district and PBK Architects implementing some of the design concepts and features of Duryea and Danish elementary schools.

Current Construction Projects and Photos:
  • Smith Middle School - Jodie Blair Smith Middle School (Middle School #16) is being constructed on the 130-acre multi-school campus site located on Fry Road near the intersection of Cypress N. Houston.  Design work began in March 2007 with the school opening for the 2009-2010 school year. The school is designed by SHW Group, Inc. The funds are from the 2004 bond election.

  • Swenke Elementary - Elementary School No. 50 is being constructed on a 14-acre site located at Fairfield Place Drive and Schiel Road. The district’s 50th elementary school is designed by Bay Architects and is a new prototype design using design features from McFee Elementary School. The school features a complementary unique design utilizing similar building materials and colors. Swenke Elementary will provide enrollment relief for Keith and Ault elementary schools. The school will be the seventh elementary campus and the last new facility funded from the 2004 Bond Referendum. The Board of Trustees approved the site, architect and completion date during the August 2007 Board meeting and awarded the construction contract in March 2008. Swenke Elementary will open in August 2009.

  • Alternative Learning Center West - The Alternative Learning Center West is being constructed at the surplus property adjacent to Jowell Elementary School, located at 19350 Rebel Yell. The facility is designed by PBK Architects with a scheduled opening date of August 2009. The contract was awarded to Drymalla Construction, Inc. in the amount of $8,938,000, as approved during the October 2008 Board meeting.

Upcoming Construction Projects:

  • Elementary School No. 51 - The Board approved the contract award for the construction of Elementary School No. 51 during a regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 20, 2009. The school will be located at Round Robin Drive and Plantation Myrtles Drive, and will be designed by PBK Architects with a scheduled opening date of August 2010. The school will be built using funds from the 2007 Bond. The contract was awarded to Drymalla Construction, Inc. in the amount of $12,075,000.

  • Elementary School No. 52 - The Board approved the contract award for the construction of Elementary School No. 52, to be located on CFISD's multi-campus site in Towne Lake, on Tuckerton Road near Greenhouse Road, during the regularly scheduled meeting on June 15, 2009. The construction award was approved for the amount of $13,649,000 to Purcell Construction, Inc., using funds from the 2007 Bond. The project, designed by Bay Architects, is scheduled to be completed in July 2010 for the 2010-2011 school year.

  • Elementary School No. 53 - At the Oct. 13, 2008 Board meeting, the Board approved the selection of the site, architect and completion date for the construction of Elementary School No. 53. The school will be located on the 174-acre multi-school site, located north of FM 529, one mile west of Fry Road. The project will be designed by PBK Architects and will open in 2011-2012. Elementary No. 53 will provide enrollment relief for Duryea, Walker and Warner elementary schools, and will be funded by the 2007 Bond program.

  • Middle School No. 17 - The Board approved the site, architect and completion date for Middle School No. 17 during a regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 20, 2009. The school will be located on Fairfield Place Drive in the Fairfield community and be designed by SHW Group LLP, with a scheduled opening date of August 2011. The school will be funded by the 2007 Bond and provide enrollment relief for Aragon, Goodson, Hamilton and Spillane middle schools.
