Taxpayers have realized a low tax impact for more than a decade. Since the 1998-1999 school year, CFISD has opened 28 new schools and experienced nearly a 50-cent drop in the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Tax Rate. While the M&O Tax Rate was at the state cap of $1.50 from the 2002-2003 to 2005-2006 school years, it dropped to $1.35 for the 2006-2007 school year and again to $1.02 for 2007-2008. The proposed 2008-2009 M&O Tax Rate of $1.04 is a slight increase from the previous year.
