The mission of the Cypress Fairbanks ISD ROPES Program is to provide an outdoor educational environment in which learning opportunities for all participants are presented to develop the skills of an effective communicator, competent problem-solver, self-directed learner, and responsible citizen through Reality Oriented Physical Experiences.

The ROPES program now has three courses, and over 11,000 students and staff participated last year. The Cypress-Fairbanks ROPES program is an experiential activity lead by trained facilitators. Participants are taught problem solving, communication, and cooperative skills through warm-up games, initiatives, and low and high challenge course elements. The level of participation is voluntary at all times; challenge by choice is the motto.

Warm-Up Games and Initiatives: Games are chosen that promote teamwork, communication, and trust. The initiatives are problem-solving tasks that require the whole group to make decisions together in order to accomplish the task. Leadership skills are developed as each person gives and receives input.

The Low Elements: Although not very far off the ground, these activities require participants to employ their sense of balance, fair play, cooperation, trust, and teamwork. These are partner or group activities that must be accomplished through planning. Participants learn how to make a plan, organize themselves according to the plan, and then execute the plan.

The High Elements: The elements are constructed of cables and wood 30 to 40 feet off the ground. The participant is hooked to a belay rope for safety at all times. Some participants will choose to experience all elements offered, while others will choose to support the group with encouraging words and physical support when needed. Whatever level is accomplished, self-esteem, confidence, and trust is boosted as each element is conquered.

Candidates For Participation: Cy-Fair ISD students 4th through 12th grade, all Cy-Fair ISD staff, non-profit organizations that focus on youth, and corporate groups who are Cy-Fair ISD Business Partners.
