The focus of Music Memory for students in fourth and fifth grades is an in-depth study of eight pieces of music literature. Students are exposed to a variety of composers, their lives and their music. Throughout the year, students are given the opportunity to describe and analyze the music, relate the music to history, to society and to culture, and to evaluate musical performances. Selections for this year are listed below.
Music Memory Selections
The CFISD Music Memory Contest was held on Thursday, May 21, 2009. For the first time, the annual event was held at the Berry Center. Twenty elementary schools brought teams of seven students from grades four and five to compete in the contest. Students studied eight composers and musical works during the 2008 – 2009 school year to prepare for the event. Students listened to brief excerpts from the songs to try to identify the musical selections. More than 300 students and family members attended the contest.
Schools were awarded gold, silver, or bronze trophies. Individual students received certificates and medals.
