Special Education Counselors serve students that qualify for special education services throughout the district.
- Students receiving special education services may be referred for Special Education counseling through an Admission, Review, or Dismissal (ARD) meeting.
- Special Education Counselors consult with staff regarding classroom and behavior management, as well as “value added” services, are part of the special education counseling process.
- Special Education Counselors serve as a resource for behavior management, social skills and problem solving strategies.
- Special Education Counselors work with students to develop a positive self-concept, increase self awareness, build techniques to enhance impulse control, learn appropriate socialization skills, enhance decision making processes, gain organizational skills, and develop coping skills.
- Special Education Counselors work on specialized goals and objectives which are based on the outcome of the assessment and agreed upon by the ARD committee.
