Susan Beckemeier
281- 897-4008
Susan Beckemeier is commonly known as Susan B. to distinguish her from all the other Susans involved with the running of the SRC. Actually, she has a lot of titles including "Fly Lady", "Fish Lady" and "Agar Goddess." Her primary jobs are taking care of the aquaria and culturing all the little creatures that are sent out from the protist lab.
Alice Flood
281-897-4007
Alice Flood became manager of the SRC in the fall of 1998 and hasn’t stopped running since. She came here after teaching seventh grade life science at Campbell Junior High, then biology at Langham Creek High School. Once afraid of snakes, by the time she left Langham Creek, she was known as "The Snake Lady." She says what she like most about her current position is the diversity of the activities. She isn’t limited to one branch of science, but has the chance to dabble in astronomy, geology, chemistry, biology and so on. Any outing presents an opportunity for studies that can lead to new curriculum for demonstrations or new exhibits. Besides student education, Alice conducts classes for teachers so that they will know the proper way to care for animals they check out from the SRC.
Linda Haywood
281-897-4008
Teachers know Linda Haywood as that friendly lady who delivers their orders from the SRC to their schools. When she isn’t out in the van, she helps maintain the lab kits that are part of the deliveries, does some of the shopping, and helps out in the animal lab. In the summer, she does a lot of the office duties.
Denise Martin
281-897-4695
Denise has been a teacher in the district for 25 years. She taught seventeen years at the elementary level, and at Dean middle school for three. She joined the Science Resource Center as a helping teacher in Fall of 2000. She stays busy planning inservice training for teachers, assisting with curriculum projects, and "helping" with whatever needs to be done. If you have any ideas for new demos, labs, or equipment that the SRC can assist you with, let Denise know!
Lorinda Hughes
281-897-4009
The first thing people notice about Lorinda is her car—a 1955 Chevy that is older than she is. Her duties at the SRC are diverse. She is part of the planetarium delivery team, does most of the shopping for supplies and lab kits, checks in the teaching aids when they are returned from the schools, conducts tours, and helps out in the animal lab.
Faye Mick
281-897-4121
Faye Mick, like several other members of the SRC staff, started out as a volunteer. The animal lab is her domain. Since she joined the staff in 1994 she has cared for everything from Australian sugar gliders to zebra mice. One year she acted as midwife for the boa constrictor that gave birth to 30 baby boas. She is the person to go to with your animal questions.
Susan Weidenmeyer
281-897-4004
Susan Weidenmeyer has been with the SRC almost since its beginning. As a result, she has performed nearly every sort of job there is to do there, at least once. All that experience makes her the person the rest of the staff goes to with their questions. Currently, she runs the front office doing everything from fielding requests and posting orders to bookkeeping. If you call the SRC, there is a good chance she will be the one who answers the phone, and if she isn’t, the person who does, may say, "Just a minute, I’ll ask Susan." |
