Purpose: CFISD formed the Community Legislative Committee, comprised of approximately forty individuals, to represent various stakeholders in the community served by the district. Our group includes representation by local business owners, clergy, Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce, retirees, parents of current and former CFISD students, all of whom are property taxpayers in the district.
Community members lead the group, and the district provides support to the chair and steering committee members. The CLC has developed the attached purpose statement .
Legislative Priorities: The CLC members have spent months conducting research, analyzing data about the district, learning about school finance, accountability, governance and many other issues. We have developed a set of Legislative Priorities for the 82nd Legislative Session that we believe deserve attention by our legislators. These priorities will be shared with legislators and also with community members, school district parents, and business leaders.
Good News: The CLC members recognize the importance and value that CFISD's quality performance in both student achievement and financial efficiencies have, not only on students and parents, but on business owners and taxpayers. We want to both celebrate and share with the community, factual data and information in the attached Good News document.
Storm Clouds: We are aware of the looming budget shortfall, which has been well publicized by radio, print and television media. We are also aware that CFISD receives the lowest funding per student of any district in the greater Harris County area and is significantly below the state average. Read comments which have been excerpted from the news.
