Vision Screening - All 4 year olds, kindergartners, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th graders will be screened by TDH certified screeners for vision problems each year. Also, all students new to Texas schools will be screened. Vision screening will be done at any grade level on any student who may be suspected of vision loss by the classroom teacher or the parent.

Hearing Screening - All 4 year olds, kindergartners, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th graders will be screened by TDH certified screeners for hearing problems each year. Also, all students new to Texas schools will be screened. Hearing screening will be done at any grade level on any student who may be suspected of hearing loss by the classroom teacher or the parent.

Spinal Screening - All 5th and 8th grade students will be screened for spinal abnormalities. If abnormalities are found, parents will be notified to take their children to their personal physician for further evaluation and follow up.

Special seating arrangements in the classroom shall be made for students with vision or hearing defects on recommendation by the school nurse.

The State of Texas mandates that Acanthosis Nigricans screening be completed on 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th grade students.
