Safety Department - FAQs

Question:

What do we do when we have safety concerns in our building or on our playgrounds?

Answer:

Please contact the Safety Department at 281-897-4065. The problem will be surveyed and corrected as soon as possible.

Question:

What should we do if the flashing school zone signs do not work or are not set for the correct times?

Answer:

You may call Charla Mercer in the Safety Department and the proper county precinct will be notified immediately to correct the situation.

Question:

I have noticed a recent change in the traffic flow near my school. Many of our children are "walkers" and I feel this could be a dangerous situation. Is there anything that can be done?

Answer:

Report your concerns immediately to the Safety Department. The county precinct in which your school is located will be contacted by letter and a request will be made for a traffic study to determine if a school zone sign or a stop sign is warranted.

Question:

Why do we have so many fire drills?

Answer:

State law mandates one (1) fire drill per month. It is recommended that fire drills be alternated between obstructed and unobstructed each month. An evacuation route showing a main route and an alternate route should be posted in each room. A year-end recap of the drills must be forwarded to the Safety Department for filing with the Texas Fire Commission.

Question:

Why can’t we store materials such as furniture, custodial supplies and paper in the mechanical and air handler rooms?

Answer:

Mechanical room equipment can create heat. Therefore, flammable or toxic producing materials should never be stored in such an environment. If a fire should occur, smoke will spread through the building via the HVAC ducts causing serious health hazards to students and staff.

Question:

We feel there is a need for safety training at our school. How can we accomplish this?

Answer:

Call Martin Anding at 281-897-4065 to set up appropriate training for your staff.

Question:

I have a question about the safety of a particular area of my building. Who do I call?

Answer:

Martin Anding will gladly meet with you and perform a safety inspection of the area in question.
