Nov. 9, 2017—Janet Yvette Garcia, principal at Holbrook Elementary School, was named the new principal at Truitt Middle School on Nov. 9. Garcia replaces Teresa Baranowski, who will retire in December.

Garcia’s 32-year education career began as an English Language Learners and English Immersion teacher at Moore Elementary School. She served in that role for six years before moving to California and returning after two years to join the staff at Sheridan Elementary School.

She moved into administration in 2001 as Garcia served two years as an instructional specialist and three years as an assistant principal at Post Elementary School. She then spent three years as an assistant principal at Holbrook Elementary School before being promoted to principal at Francone Elementary School. Garcia was named the principal at Holbrook in 2012.

Garcia received her bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University and her Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. She was recognized by her district peers in the spring as one of CFISD’s representatives for Region 4 Principal of the Year.

“I am so thrilled to continue my work in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD as the principal of Truitt Middle School,” Garcia said. “I have always felt I was meant to be a middle school principal and I look forward to meeting the staff, parents and students. Go Timberwolves.”
