Jan. 26, 2017—Black Elementary School fourth-grade student Nicholas Oliver is a member of the A-B honor roll and the school’s Name That Book team. An accomplished pianist and Cub Scout, Oliver sat on a panel at the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Conference. Oliver credits his family for challenging him to surf, zipline and ski.

Favorite class: Science. “I enjoy doing all of the experiments/investigations.”
Favorite things to do after class: Reading, swimming and playing video games with friends.
Favorite song: O Christmas Tree
Favorite TV show: Goosebumps on Netflix. “I love the scary music warning me that something is about to happen.”
Favorite movie: Goosebumps the Movie. “The characters were the same ones that I’ve read about in the books.”
Ambition: “I would like to be a professional pianist.”
What topics/things are you passionate about? “I enjoy everything in science, but I especially love studying astronomy.”
What inspires you? Family. “Even though I can't see, they challenge me to do things independently. Because of this, I have tried many new things like surfing, ziplining and snow skiing.”
What three things can’t you live without? My Braille Note, books to read and my cane.
