Eight Science Olympiad teams qualify for state

Cypress Ranch High School clinched the Gulf Coast Regional Science Olympiad title and earned the Spirit Award on March 4 to qualify for the Texas Science Olympiad April 21-22.

April 6, 2017—Four CFISD high school and four middle school Science Olympiad teams have qualified for the Texas Science Olympiad, set for April 21-22 in College Station.

Cypress Ranch High School placed first in the Gulf Coast Regional at Lone Star College—CyFair on March 4, and claimed the Spirit Award, to qualify for state.

Cypress Falls High School won the Corpus Christi Regional on March 4 to qualify for state.

Jersey Village and Langham Creek high schools each placed third at the Gulf Coast and Katy regionals, respectively, to qualify for state.

Other high schools finishing among the top 10 at their respective regionals were Cy-Fair (seventh place, Gulf Coast) and Cypress Creek (ninth place, Katy).

The following four middle school Science Olympiad teams qualified for state:

  • Anthony Middle School placed second and won the Spirit Award at the Gulf Coast Regional;
  • Hamilton Middle School placed second at the Katy Regional;
  • Kahla Middle School placed fourth at the Gulf Coast Regional; and
  • Hopper Middle School placed fifth at the Gulf Coast Regional.
