Middle school football teams clinch district titles

Nov. 29, 2016—CFISD’s 2016 middle school football schedule concluded on Nov. 9, with seventh- and eighth-grade A and B teams claiming championships in their respective East and West divisions.

The following teams won zone titles:

Eighth grade

  • the Hamilton (6-0-1, 5-0-1) and Arnold (5-1-1, 5-0-1) A teams shared the East Division championship;
  • the Smith (7-1, 6-1), Spillane (7-1, 6-1) and Goodson (6-2, 6-1) A teams shared the West Division championship;
  • the Hamilton B team (7-0, 6-0) won the East Division title; and
  • the Smith B team (8-0, 7-0) won the West Division title.

Seventh grade

  • the Campbell (7-0, 6-0) and Hamilton (7-0, 6-0) A teams shared the East Division championship;
  • the Thornton (8-0, 7-0) A team clinched the West Division championship;
  • the Dean B team (5-0-2, 5-0-1) won the East Division title; and
  • the Salyards B team (7-0-1, 6-0-1) won the West Division title.

“The 2016 middle school football season has been a great success,” said Ray Zepeda, CFISD director of athletics. “I appreciate the hard work and commitment of our players and coaches. Our goal is to have the best, most fundamentally sound middle school football program in the state. We feel that we have taken a step forward toward accomplishing our goal this year.”
