Salyards, Smith clinch district cross country team championships

Oct. 17, 2016—Cross country teams from Salyards and Smith middle schools won team championships at the CFISD Middle School Cross Country Meet, held Oct. 12 at Bear Creek Park.

Salyards Middle School won the eighth-grade boys’ race with a team score of 56, followed by runner-up Thornton (113) and third-place Spillane (113). Thornton took second place via tiebreaker.

The runners comprising Salyards’ score were Jorge Cantu (third overall, 11:20.83); Collin Pendelton (sixth overall, 11:23.41); Enrique Gonzalez (10th overall, 11:33.18); Teag Maples (12th overall, 11:36.83); and Venkata Yalamanchili (25th overall, 11:53.16).

The top 10 individual eighth-grade boys were as follows:

1)    Randy Smith, Smith (10:48.14);

2)    Martin Basa, Anthony (11:20.16);

3)    Jorge Cantu, Salyards (11:20.83);

4)    Danny Castro, Hopper (11:20.83);

5)    Aaron Cooper, Spillane (11:22.65);

6)    Collin Pendelton, Salyards (11:23.41);

7)    Myles Jackson, Thornton (11:24.41);

8)    Cade Sanchez, Cook (11:26.82);

9)    Benjamin Legar, Truitt (11:29.73); and

10)  Enrique Gonzalez, Salyards (11:33.18).

 

Smith Middle School won the eighth-grade girls’ race with a score of 59, followed by runner-up Spillane (100) and third-place Anthony (104).

Smith’s runners were Natalie Mason (first overall, 12:21.48); Mariana Saleh (eighth overall, 13:03.65); Lindsey Polleschultz (15th overall, 13:30.96); Lexie Burk (17th overall, 13:31.56); and Lauren Pavlina (18th overall, 13:31.77).

The top 10 individual eighth-grade girls are as follows:

1)    Natalie Mason, Smith (12:21.48);

2)    Elizabeth Hamilton, Spillane (12:38.55);

3)    Jacqueline Hernandez, Labay (12:39.90);

4)    Payton Murray, Arnold (12:43.83);

5)    Gloria Chapa, Salyards (12:44.15);

6)    Aniaha Wade, Anthony (12:47.54);

7)    Kensie Lee, Bleyl (12:50.58);

8)    Mariana Saleh, Smith (13:03.65);

9)    McKenna Brown, Truitt (13:03.95); and

10)  Jailynn Alvarez, Watkins (13:09.21).

 

Smith won the seventh-grade boys’ race with a score of 54, followed by runner-up Salyards (58) and third-place Spillane (104).

Smith’s runners were Eric Nafstad (second overall, 11:18.56); Nathan Turman (third overall, 11:45.90); Carter Crawford (ninth overall, 12:12.57); Ian Ramey (17th overall, 12:37.56); and Bishoy Elias (23rd overall, 12:48.26).

The top 10 individual seventh-grade boys’ runners are as follows:

1)    John Carswell, Aragon (11:13.30);

2)    Eric Nafstad, Smith (11:18.56);

3)    Nathan Turman, Smith (11:45.90);

4)    Julian Vallejo, Hamilton (11:51.66);

5)    Braden Parke, Salyards (11:52.65);

6)    Thomas Ryder, Salyards (11:53.27);

7)    Sebastian Garbot, Spillane (12:04.51);

8)    Devon Simmons, Arnold (12:09.14);

9)    Carter Crawford, Smith (12:12.57); and

10)  Jack Mullally, Spillane (12:14.39).

 

Salyards won the seventh-grade girls’ race with a score of 40, followed by runner-up Spillane (50) and third-place Anthony (85).

Salyards’ runners were Elisa Grillo (second overall, 13:04.35); Cassidy Graham (third overall, 13:08.33); Hope Griffin (ninth overall, 13:42.89); Aidyn Lawton (11th overall, 13:43.30); and Mya Trager (15th overall, 13:47.37).

The top 10 individual seventh-grade girls’ runners are as follows:

1)    Michelle Trochez, Anthony (12:30.59);

2)    Elisa Grillo, Salyards (13:04.35);

3)    Cassidy Graham, Salyards (13:08.33);

4)    Lilly Redwine, Spillane (13:10.14);
