Dear Dr. Anthony:

I represent constituents living in parts of four different school districts, and CSHB 2 will soon be up for a final vote in the Texas
House.

As you're aware, the bill is 700+ pages and covers literally dozens of issues, some of which you disagree with (like the school calendar), some of which you don't (like more money). The bill is heading to the conference committee and once it emerges, I have one up-or-down vote on the whole bill. At that point, if the bill contains the provisions essentially as you currently understand it to--and includes the following elements:

--adds $3-4 billion of new money into the public ed system

--adds tens of millions of new dollars into Cy Fair ISD

--provides more transparency and accountability to taxpayers in how school districts are spending money

--pay raise for teachers

--moves school board elections to same date as judicial, federal, state, county, and most city elections

--compresses the school year by 7-10 days and shifts the start date three weeks later
