CFISD SETS BOUNDARIES FOR SAMPSON ELEMENTARY

The Board of Trustees of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District approved the recommendations for the attendance boundary changes and rules for student transfers associated with the opening of Sampson Elementary for the 2002-03 school year during their regular monthly meeting December 10.

The attendance boundaries for Sampson, which provides enrollment relief for Ault, Farney and Lamkin elementary schools, will include students that live in the neighborhoods affected by the following changes:

• Ault Elementary— The area east of Cypress Lake Golf Course, south of Cypress Church Road, west of Cypress Rosehill Road and north of Highway 290 will be rezoned to Sampson Elementary. This will include, but will not be limited to, the Cypress Mill, Cypress Mill Estates and Cypress Mill Park communities.
• Farney Elementary— The area of Longwood south of Little Cypress Creek, Cypress Mill Park II (east of Cypress Rosehill Road) and Western Trails will be rezoned to Sampson Elementary.
• Lamkin Elementary— The area east of Dry Creek, south of Spring-Cypress Road, north of Jarvis Road and west of Telge Road, including students living on Telge Road between Jarvis and Huffmeister roads, will be rezoned to Sampson Elementary. This will include, but will not be limited to, students who live in the Coles Crossing community.

Additional boundary changes include rezoning the Barker Lakes community from the Jowell Elementary/Thornton Middle School/Cypress Springs High School feeder pattern to a Lamkin Elementary/Arnold Middle School/Cypress Falls High School feeder pattern. Lismore Lake Estates will be rezoned from Moore Elementary to Hamilton Elementary, but will remain on the Hamilton Middle School/Cypress Creek High School feeder pattern.

Currently, there are no CFISD students in the Barker Lakes or Lismore Lake Estates communities who will be affected by this rezoning.

Transfer rules for students affected by an elementary school boundary change have been established to allow students entering the fifth grade in the 2002-03 school year the option to remain at their current elementary school. These students will not be required to pay the $25 transfer fee required for all other transfers, but requests for transfer must be submitted prior to the start of the 2002-03 school year.

Requests for student transfers as described must adhere to district transfer policies and regulations. Fifth-grade students who move into the rezoned area after the end of the 2001-02 school year will attend the elementary school designated by the rezoning.

Additionally, there will be no bus transportation provided for elementary transfer students. Bus routes will be redrawn to reflect the changes in the attendance boundaries, and buses will only transport students to their designated school.
