Langham Creek High School senior Jennifer Gamber was among 23 Houston-area high
school students who qualified as finalists in the 13th Annual Coca-Cola Share
the Dream Essay Contest.
As a finalist, Gamber received a $250 college scholarship that was presented to her during an awards banquet held April 12, 2002, at Astros Field.
Finalists were chosen from more than 1,740 entries responding to the theme, "It has been said that education is the key to unlocking success. What keys did you make for yourself to move into the future?" Students in grades 9 through 12 were asked to submit an essay of 500 words or less on the subject. A panel of judges, which included local educators and community leaders, reviewed the essays based on originality, content, creativity, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary.
Sponsored by the Houston Coca-Cola Bottling Company, the "Share the Dream" essay contest has awarded more than $130,000 in scholarship money to more than 215 Houston-area students since its inception in 1989. Each year, one grand-prize, one first-place and one second-place winner are selected from the group of qualifying finalists.
