COOK MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND DIRECTOR SELECTED
FOR MEMBERSHIP IN INTERNATIONAL FRATERNITY

Tye Ann Payne, band director for Cook Middle School in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, was recently inducted as a member of Phi Beta Mu, an international school bandmaster fraternity that is dedicated to the promotion of music education in public schools.

Payne was recognized as one of the fraternity's newest members during an annual reception held February 23, 2002, in San Antonio, Texas. Larry Matysiak of Clements High School, Merlin Patterson of Bleyl Middle School and David Bertman from the University of Houston sponsored Payne's membership initiative.

In order to be considered for membership in Phi Beta Mu, the music educator must have at least 10 years of successful teaching experience and must have produced and maintained an outstanding and consistent band program in public schools.

Payne joins approximately 275 active members in the Texas Chapter of Phi Beta Mu, an honorary, non-political, non-profit fraternity with additional chapters in most of the 50 states as well as Canada, Japan and various countries in Europe.
