The project team involved with the $30 million renovation project at Cy-Fair
High School has received the Award of Excellence for a Public Project by the
monthly Texas Construction magazine. The school was highlighted in a special
edition of the magazine in December 2001.
The article recognizes the project team for the work completed on the 62-year-old
high school, which endured a complete interior demolition and reconstruction
of nearly every area of its 450,000-square-feet campus. The team was also lauded
for rebuilding the center of the L-shaped school without interruption to the
instruction of students.
Members of the project team were: Gilbane Building Company, general contractor;
PBK Architects, Inc., architect; Jones/Borne Inc., structural engineer; Brooks
and Sparks, Inc., civil engineer; R.H. George and Associates, Inc., mechanical
and electrical engineer.
Other features of the renovation spotlighted in the Texas Construction article
included Cy-Fair High's new math and science wing, completely rebuilt classrooms,
a state-of-the-art library, a new kitchen and cafeteria, and the new central
corridor that spans the entire 850 feet of the building.
The project team was also commended for preserving the wooden floors of the
old gymnasium that the 1971 Cy-Fair basketball team played on when the school
won the national high school championship. The floor is now on display in the
new library's "Texas Room."
