CFISD SCHEDULES MEETING FOR HORIZONS NOMINATIONS
The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District will host a meeting for parents who wish to nominate their child for the HORIZONS Spring Testing for grades K-12. The nomination period is from November 5 to December 18, 2001, for elementary students (grades K-5) and November 5, 2001 to February 15, 2002 for secondary students (grades 6-12).
In order to complete the testing process in a timely manner, there will be no exceptions for these nomination deadlines. All nominated elementary students will be tested January 10 through April 1, 2002, depending on grade level. All nominated secondary students will be tested either on March 23 or April 6, 2002, depending on the campus.
Ellen Williams, coordinator for HORIZONS— the district’s gifted and talented program— will provide details on the nomination process during this meeting. She will also explain which tests are administered to determine identification of giftedness, how results are recorded on the Student Identification Matrix, and the appeals process.
Due to the growing population of CFISD, there will be four sessions of the same meeting scheduled at different dates and locations. Parents should plan to attend the session that is closest to the child’s home campus, or the session that best fits their schedule.
All four meetings will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. in the school cafeterias at the following locations:
Diana Marion, CFISD’s bilingual/ESL coordinator, will be present for two sessions to discuss the proceedings in Spanish.
For more information about these meetings, contact Ellen Williams at 281-897-4000.
