SENIORS HONORED IN
NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
PROGRAM
Six Jersey Village High School seniors have been named Semifinalists while 12 were honored as commended students in the 2003 National Merit Scholarship Program. One Jersey Village senior was also named a Semifinalist in the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Semifinalists placed among the top 1% and Commended Students placed among the top 5% of more than one million students who entered the Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test during their junior year. Semifinalists will continue in the competition for approximately 8,000 Merit Scholarship awards, worth more than $30 million, to be offered next spring.
Semifinalists in the National Achievement Scholarship Program are among the 1,500 top performing African American students in the nation and are competing for approximately 775 Achievement Scholarship Awards that will be awarded next spring.
Jersey Village seniors named as Semifinalists are William Butterfras, Sam Dirickson, Nathan Johnson, Samuel Lee, Laura Mengheang and Michael Scarborough. Commended Students are Rhiannon Applegate, Twisha Chakravarty, Grace Feigh, Blanca Fuentes, Melissa Hoffman, Ashley Hubble, Siddarth Kode, Milben Manalang, William Moore, Bryan Owens, Julie Steffens and Deborah Turner. Owens is also a Semifinalist in the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
