Jersey Village High School science teacher Robert Dennison has been selected as the state’s secondary-level winner of the 2002 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and will represent Texas in the national contest.

As a state-finalist, Dennison will be recognized during the September State Board of Education meeting. Superintendent Rick Berry and Jersey Village Principal Ralph Funk have been invited to attend the meeting to join in honoring Dennison for his accomplishments.

One elementary and one secondary mathematics teacher, as well as one elementary and one secondary science teacher from Texas, are selected as candidates for the national Presidential Award. The names of the national award winners will be announced in the fall.

Each national award-winner’s school will receive a $7,500 National Science Foundation grant to be utilized under the recipient’s direction over a three-year period to improve school mathematics and science programs. Additionally, each award winner and spouse/guest will receive an all expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the recognition ceremony and a personal check for $750 from the National Science Foundation.

Dennison has previously received the Siemans Award for Advanced Placement for his work in math and science. He has also been honored three times by the CFISD Wall of Fame program, which celebrates the accomplishments and successes of a handful of the district’s best.
