KIRK ELEMENTARY BECOMES OFFICIAL CHANNEL 2 WEATHER SCHOOL
Kirk Elementary, one of 56 schools in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, has recently been named an official weather school by KPRC-TV Channel 2 and will host a formal dedication of its weather monitoring equipment Friday, September 7 at 8 a.m.
To help kick-off the activities, Channel 2 meteorologist Chuck George will be broadcasting his morning weather report live from the Kirk campus that Friday between 5 and 7 a.m. During his reports, George will spotlight several projects at Kirk, including:
Funded by Ryko Development, the Kirk PTO and the school, the weather station— equipped with thermometers, cameras and other weather-gauging devices— was mounted outside on the roof of the building during the summer break. A computer that reads and records the data collected by the weather station is housed in Kirk’s Resource Center.
Kirk Principal Linda Jefferson said that students will use the weather station to learn more about the local climate, assist with research projects and report the day’s forecast during the morning announcements. Likewise, Channel 2 will be able to report the information collected at Kirk during news broadcasts to keep local viewers up-to-date on the weather conditions in the Cy-Fair area.
