CFISD’S LABAY MIDDLE NAMED AMONG BEST PERFORMING SCHOOLS IN TEXAS

Labay Middle School in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District was named among the best 13 junior high/middle schools and 26 elementary schools in Texas during 2001, and is a finalist for an honor roll of the best performing public school in the state, according to the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC)) and Just for the Kids (JFTK). Winners will be announced November 14 at an awards luncheon in Dallas.

The TBEC/JFTK recognizes the consistent performance from a "Recognized" or "Exemplary" school for three years. Schools must have realized an exemplary performance in each grade in each subject. This is the first year that junior high/middle schools will be honored.

The JFTK organization has analyzed data for the past three years to identify schools that qualify for the awards by meeting the following criteria:

JFTK is a non-profit data-analysis and research organization founded in 1995. The organization’s goal is to raise academic standards and increase student academic achievement in Tex as. JTFK publishes information on how schools perform over time on its web site at www.just4kids.org.

TBEC, formed in 1989, is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the performance of the public school system by influencing state education policy and stimulating community-based school improvement initiatives. TBEC volunteer teams visit schools, including those who are finalists for the Honor Roll, to confirm the performance data and evaluate the schools against other criteria. TBEC makes a wide variety of information available on its web site at www.tbec.org.
