CFISD SWIMMERS CLAIM STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES

Two high school aquatic athletes from the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District rose above the ranks to claim state titles in their respective events at this year’s Texas UIL Swimming Championship held February 23-24 in Austin.

John Patterson from Cypress Falls High School earned the state title in the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 4:31.59, and Andrew Sullivant from Cypress Creek High School proved best in the state in the 100-yard backstroke with a winning time of 50.53.

Additionally, several swimmers from CFISD earned second place at the state meet. Cypress Creek swimmer Thomas Bishop placed just behind Patterson in the 500-yard freestyle with a 4:36.79 finish before joining his fellow Cougar teammates Tyler Hill, Chris Knaute and Andrew Sullivant for second place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay event with a time of 3:08.96.

Coached by John Webb, the Cypress Creek boys’ team won third place overall at the state meet.
