
Four Cy-Fair High School seniors have been named Semifinalists while 10 were honored as commended students in the 2003 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Semifinalists placed among the top 1% and Commended Students placed among the top 5% of more than one million students who entered the Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test during their junior year. Semifinalists will continue in the competition for approximately 8,000 Merit Scholarship awards, worth more than $30 million, to be offered next spring.
Cy-Fair seniors named as Semifinalists are Jeremy Brautigam, Emily Krennerich, Bryan Mitchell and Michelle Tang. Commended Students are John Daly, Jack Fann, Heather Fuller, Niraj Gupta, Jose Pelaez, Casey Plant, Kelly Richter, Corey Scherrer, Emily Staff and Patrick Weiman.
Sponsored by the Houston Coca-Cola Bottling Company, the "Share the Dream" essay contest has awarded more than $130,000 in scholarship money to more than 215 Houston-area students since its inception in 1989. Each year, one grand-prize, one first-place and one second-place winner are selected from the group of qualifying finalists.
