Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Trustees honored Cypress Falls High School athlete Calandra Stewart during the December 16 formal board meeting. Stewart was recognized for winning the State Cross Country Meet November 9 in Round Rock.
Her time for the two-mile race was 11:11.15 and she was the only runner from the greater Houston area to finish in the top 10 in the state. Stewart is the first female cross country athlete from the district to win the state title.
"Calandra is an outstanding athlete with a tremendous amount of courage," said George Hopper, director of athletics for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. "She has the discipline and dedication that it takes to be a great long-distance runner and she ran the race of her life at the right time."
Stewart will attend Texas Christian University on an athletic scholarship after graduating from Cypress Falls.
