Eighteen Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students have been named as Scholars in the National Hispanic Recognition Program.

Honored as National Hispanic Scholars are Jose Pelaez, Cy-Fair High School; Enrique Culebro, Blanca Garza, Ruth Mayer, Rosa Marroquin, Sara Meza and Bertrand Alec Pourteau, Cypress Creek High School; Veronica Childester, Cypress Springs High School; Blanca Fuentes and Nathan Johnson, Jersey Village High School; and Brian Anderson, Amanda Clauson, Robert Flores, Anna Garza, Carly Knight, James Mas, Amanda Sollars and Rebecca Torres, Langham Creek High School.

The National Hispanic Recognition Program, established in 1983, is a College Board program that provides national recognition of the exceptional academic achievements of Hispanic high school seniors, and identifies them for post-secondary institutions.

Students enter the program by taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) as high school juniors and by identifying themselves as Hispanic. From more than 200,000 students nationwide, approximately 4,900 of the highest scoring students were initially identified as semifinalists. Based on further evidence of their academic achievement, a select group of 4,200 students have been recognized as a Scholar or Honorable Mention.
