FOUR NAMED CFISD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS

One current principal and three assistant principals who will lead elementary schools in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District were announced during the February 10 meeting of the district’s Board of Trustees. Frazier Elementary Principal Erwann Davis will transfer to become Metcalf Elementary principal next year.

Davis has 18 years experience in education, all of which were accumulated in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in school administration from Prairie View A&M before beginning her career in 1983 as a teacher at Frazier. After exploring career opportunities in Wilmington, Del., from 1986 to 1988, Davis returned to CFISD as a teacher at Millsap Elementary. In 1991, she was promoted to assistant principal at Hamilton Elementary where she served for four years. She became principal of Frazier in 1995 where she continues to serve in that administrative capacity. Davis will replace current Metcalf Principal Daniel McIlduff, who was chosen to open Arlene Rydel Robison Elementary School next year.

Lamkin Elementary Assistant Principal Gale Parker will take the reigns as principal at that school beginning with the 2003-2004 school year. Parker earned her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Tennessee in 1973 and completed her master’s degree in administration at Prairie View A&M in 1997. She began her career as a teacher at Kingsbury Elementary in Tennessee in 1973 and came to CFISD in 1989 as a kindergarten teacher at Lamkin. After eight successful years as a teacher, Parker was promoted to assistant principal for grades K-2. Her appointment as Lamkin principal is indicative of her desire to continuously grow professionally.

With 24 years of experience in education, Mary Ann Smith will transfer from her role as an assistant principal at Hamilton Elementary to become principal at Emmott Elementary next year. She began her career as a fourth-grade teacher at Hondo Elementary in Hondo, Texas after earning her bachelor’s degree in music education from Texas A&I University in 1973. She came to CFISD in 1984 as a member of the K-1 team at Adam Elementary. She completed her master’s degree in education from Texas A&M-Kingsville in 1985 and was promoted to assistant principal for the K-1 team at Millsap Elementary in 1988. After 10 years at Millsap, Smith became a K-5 assistant principal at Hamilton Elementary. Smith will replace current Emmott Elementary Principal Cathy Jones, who was named as the principal to open Jane Maloy Tipps Elementary School next year.

Having spent the last five years as an assistant principal at Sheridan Elementary, Anne Wilcox will become the school’s principal. Wilcox has gained all 23 years of her education experience in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. She began teaching at Francone Elementary after earning a bachelor’s degree in education from Sam Houston State University in 1979. She completed her Master of Education in mid-management from SHSU in 1992 and was subsequently promoted to assistant principal for the Francone K-1 team that same year. In 1998, Wilcox transferred to Sheridan Elementary where she served as an assistant principal for all grade-levels and developed a relationship with the students and community that will benefit her as principal. Wilcox will replace current Principal Carla Brosnahan, who was chosen to open the Barbara Warren Birkes Elementary School next year.

A new principal for Frazier Elementary will be named at a future Board meeting.
