ELEMENTARY SPELLING BEE

The winner and runner-up for the Cypress-Fairbanks
ISD Elementary Spelling Bee are pictured receiving their awards from Julie Manuel,
elementary reading/language arts coordinator, following a close competition. Pictured
in the middle, Jowell Elementary fifth-grade student Nicholas Goodman won first
place by correctly spelling the words “unnecessarily” and “unaccountable” in the final round in order to win. Nicholas will advance to compete
in the Houston Chronicle Spelling Bee scheduled for March 26, 2003. Hamilton
Elementary fourth-grade student Ellen Yeung (right) was the runner-up in the district
competition held February 11 at the Instructional Support Center.
