CFISD Students Advance to State History Fair

The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District had 109 students who placed first or second in regional history fair competition February 22 at Bleyl Middle School and will advance to the state competition May 9-10 at the Renaissance Hotel in Austin.

"This contest is a wonderful opportunity that allows our students to grow in confidence and interview subjects and obtain first-hand knowledge of history," said Mary Smith coordinator of secondary social studies for CFISD. "This group of students going to state is a very strong and dedicated group. They have spent several hours of their personal time with Michael J. Bailey, curator of the Brazoria County Historical Museum to fine tune their projects."

Students earning special awards were: Emily Taylor, Thornton Middle School, African-American Willie Lee Gay Award; Stephanie Clark, Cy-Fair High School, Oral History Award and Sara Franco, Tara Grigg and Melanie Aston, Jersey Village High School, Women in Texas Jane McCallum Award.
