Jersey Village Student Wins Nestlé Best of Youth Award
Jersey Village High School senior Jillian Bontke is one of a select group of students in the nation to earn a Nestlé Very Best in Youth Award for her contribution to making the community a better place.
Bontke is one of only 38 young people in the nation to be honored in the program, which is co-sponsored by Nestlé and Reading Is Fundamental (RIF). There were 1,500 applicants for the award and only 15 high school students in the United States were chosen.
In addition to her award, Bontke and her family will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Los Angeles in July to attend an awards ceremony for all of the Nestlé Best in Youth recipients. Nestlé will also donate $1,000 to a charity of her choice.
"I am very excited about the award," Bontke said. "The trip will be a great way to end my senior year. I am glad my family is able to attend with me, and they are all thrilled about going to Disneyland and Universal Studios. This will be a wonderful family vacation that we would otherwise not have taken."
Bontke’s numerous academic achievements, community service hours and love for literature were credits toward her receiving the award. Bontke believes that her involvement in the charity organization Dionysus played a big role in her winning the award. Dionysus is a non-profit organization that provides theater experience for teens and young adults who are disabled, disadvantaged, or chronically ill.
A book will be published during the summer honoring all of the Best in Youth recipients.
