Cypress-Fairbanks ISD trustees honored district high school students that participated in the UIL Press Conference Competition at the University of Texas in April during the June 9 Board meeting.
Elizabeth Ervin, Cypress Ridge High School, placed second in the state in headline writing; Lorena Maili, Cypress Falls High School, received a "Tops in Texas" award for sports action photography; Mindy Rueda and Kristen DeLisle, Cy-Fair High School, received a "Tops in Texas" award for sports feature story; and Shazia Rehman, Cy-Fair High School, won first place in state for newspaper in-depth feature writing.
Additionally, the Cypress Falls High School yearbook won a Gold Star. Jason Peart is the editor of the annual publication. A Silver Star was presented to the Cypress Falls student newspaper, which was produced under the guidance of co-editors Lorena Maili and Marcellino Benito.
