Cypress Springs Graduate Nominated for ESPY Award


Cypress Springs graduate Catherine "Cat" Osterman, who was recently named the 2003 USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year, is one of only four female athletes in the nation to be nominated for the ESPY Female College Athlete of the Year Award.

The ESPY Awards were created by ESPN in 1993 and are given for Excellence in Sports Performance. Osterman, a sophomore at the University of Texas, will attend the ESPY awards presentation in Los Angeles on July 16. The ceremony will be broadcast live on ESPN at 8 p.m.

Osterman is also one of 18 players named to represent the United States at the 2003 Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic. The left-hander is a two-time All-American, the 2003 Big 12 Pitcher of Year and was the ace of the Lady Longhorns staff with a 32-6 record. She tossed 18 shutouts and led the nation with an ERA of 0.38 and an average of 14.1 strikeouts per seven innings.

The CSHS graduate is an education major at UT and has received 2003 Academic All-District VI honors, first team Academic All Big 12 honors, and is listed on the national ballot for Academic All-American honors. She is the daughter of Gary and Laura Osterman of Houston.
