Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District bus drivers recently captured top awards in the Texas Association for Pupil Transportation (TAPT) Special Needs School Bus Safety Road-e-o competition in Lubbock, Texas.
CFISD teams took first, second, and fifth places in the Special Needs Team Safety Road-e-o. The winners are: first place – Carole Wheeler and Cheryl Costello; second place – Barbara Gayle-Haase and Shelley Johnson; and fifth place - Clayton Terry and Tina Sherman.
The Special Needs Team Safety Road-e-o consists of a driving skills event, an emergency evacuation event, a loading and securement event, a bus inspection event and a written test. These events not only refine the team’s ability to work together effectively, they also expand their knowledge of the Special Needs program as well.
By placing first in the state competition, Wheeler and Costello will advance to the national competition in February 2004.
