TRUSTEES RECOGNIZE CYPRESS CREEK HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT, TEACHER

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Trustees honored Cypress Creek High School student Stephani Fry and teacher/advisor Anita Woolley during the August 11 Board meeting. Fry and Woolley were honored for their nationally recognized student literary magazine, Graffiti, in the Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

Graffiti was one of only 26 student literary publications in the United States and one of only three in Texas to receive this honor. Graffiti, which features poetry, short stories, essays and art, is published yearly by creative writing students at Cypress Creek.

"I am always pleased to learn about the accomplishments of Texas public schools, educators and students," said Felipe Alanis, commissioner of education. "I enjoyed learning that Anita Woolley and Stephani Fry were recognized by NCTE for their efforts to provide Cypress Creek High School with a high-quality student literary magazine. To receive the highest award in a field of 500 entries from throughout the nation is an accomplishment to be proud of."
