Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Trustees honored Goodson Middle School student Maria Yuan during the August 11 Board meeting. Yuan won third place and received the bronze medal from the National Sigma Math competition, open to middle school students across the nation, at the University of Nebraska.
Yuan was one of 45,346 middle school students in the country to participate in the competition during the 2002-03 school year. Yuan is a member of the Goodson Middle School math club under the direction of Peggy Fisher.
"Maria is a wonderful young person and a fantastic student," said Phyllis Hamilton, principal at Goodson. "I am extremely proud of her accomplishments. She competed against some of the top middle school students in the nation and won the bronze medal. We are fortunate to have her returning to Goodson for another year."
