Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Trustees honored Cy-Fair High School students Kelly Richter and Amartya Sengupta during the August 11 Board meeting. Richter and Sengupta were honored for winning first place in their respective grade level in American Computer Science League (ACSL) all-star competition. Their teachers, David Snyder and David Whipkey were also recognized by trustees.
More than 200 schools representing the United States, Canada, Japan and some European nations participated in four competitions throughout the year in various divisions of ACSL. Teams and individuals who scored the highest at the four contests were invited to the all-star contest in late May.
In each competition, students must solve a multiple number of short programming and application problems as well as one longer problem. The longer programming problem is to be completed within a 72-hour period. Students may use any computer (in school or out of school), any language, and as much computer time as desired.
"I am proud of what Kelly and Amartya have accomplished, said Denise Kubecka, secondary technology applications and business coordinator. "The competition was very tough and it's quite an honor for both of them to win their grade levels and for the entire team to finish third. The students and teachers should be very proud of themselves for performing so well in this prestigious competition."
