TRUSTEES RECOGNIZE CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS


Cypress-Fairbanks ISD trustees honored students and teachers who placed first or second in state and national career and technology competitions during the September 8 Board meeting.

Campbell Middle School industrial technology students, taught by Kevin Morosin, were named the Class 5A Middle School State Champions High Point School in the Industrial Technology State Contest. Student Nathan Williams was named State High Point Outstanding Student and received a $1,000 savings bond scholarship.
Cy-Fair High School industrial technology students and teachers Larry Carlton, Brad Lievsay and Clyde Johnson won the Industrial Technology State Contest for the 29th year. Carlton and his fellow teachers and students have captured first place in the competition for 29 of the 32 years they have participated.

John Schwszbach and Brandon Moon, students in the Cy-Fair High School auto tech program, won first place in state at the Ford AAA Auto Skills competition and placed 10th in the national competition in Washington, D.C. They are taught by Don Kessler who was recognized on the national level as the second runner up Teacher of the Year in the Automobile Youth Educational System (AYES).

Jersey Village High School Healthcare Science Technology Education student Duc Bui placed second in the National Healthcare Issues Exam at the National HOSA (Health Occupations Society of America) Leadership Conference in Atlanta. He is taught by Sharon Hamlin.

Windfern High School Apprenticeship student Richard Bigelow won first place in state and placed third in the National Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) Leadership Conference, Skills for USA Contest. Bigelow's teacher is Jerry Risinger.

"The teachers recognized at the Board meeting have continued the rich tradition of the Cypress Fairbanks School District by nurturing and encouraging students to achieve and experience success in competitive events outside the classroom. For students to win in state and national events is a reflection of quality instruction and exemplary programs in the school district," said Bob Singletary, director of the district's career and technology education program.
