CYPRESS SPRINGS GRADUATE CHOSEN FOR USA SOFTBALL TEAM
Cypress Springs graduate Catherine "Cat" Osterman, the 2003 USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year, is one of only 18 female athletes in the nation to be chosen to train for the USA Softball team that will compete at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
Since the official Olympic roster consists of only 15-players, three of the 18 players selected will be named as alternates in January. The final 15 will be nominated to the United States Olympic Committee as the team to represent the U.S. at the 2004 Olympic Games that will take place August 13-29, 2004 in Athens.
Osterman was one of 18 players to represent the United States at the 2003 Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic. The left-hander is a two-time All-American, the 2003 Big 12 Pitcher of Year and was the ace of the Lady Longhorns staff with a 32-6 record. She tossed 18 shutouts and led the nation with an ERA of 0.38 and an average of 14.1 strikeouts per seven innings.
The CSHS graduate is an education major at UT and has received 2003 Academic All-District VI honors and first team Academic All Big 12 honors. She is the daughter of Gary and Laura Osterman of Houston.
