INPUT ON BOUNDARY OPTIONS
FOR OPENING OF DURYEA
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD) will open Dr. Peggy Bell Duryea Elementary with the start of the 2004-2005 school year and is currently seeking community input in establishing attendance boundaries for the new school.
Duryea Elementary is now under construction at the corner of Arbor Creek and Fry Road. The opening of this new school, a project authorized by voters in the 2001 Bond Election, will provide enrollment relief for Jowell, Sheridan and Walker elementary schools. Wilson Elementary could possibly be affected by the boundary change as well.
In recent weeks, the district’s administrative boundary committee has been meeting with the community advisory committee to discuss options related to the attendance boundaries for Duryea Elementary. Two options were developed by the administrative boundary committee and are available to the public for comment. These options may be viewed here.
Input regarding the attendance boundary options may be sent electronically through the district’s Web site or by submitting letters to CFISD Planning and Research, 10300 Jones Rd., Houston, TX, 77065 or via fax at 281-897-6410.
All public input will be copied and distributed to members of the administrative boundary committee, the community advisory committee, the Board of Trustees and Superintendent Rick Berry. Due to the anticipated volume, it may not be possible to provide a response to all input.
The next meeting of the administrative boundary and community advisory committees is scheduled for November 20 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 502 of the Instructional Support Center, 10300 Jones Road. While this meeting is open to the public, patrons may not actively participate in the meeting.
It is expected that the Board will consider the recommendations for attendance boundaries for Duryea Elementary during its December 15 meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. at the Instructional Support Center.
