WILLIAM H. O'BRIEN ELECTED TO TASB BOARD

 

Dr. William H. O'Brien, president of the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Board of Trustees, has been re-elected to the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Board of Directors. He will serve a three-year team representing TASB Region 4F.

O'Brien was first elected to the CFISD Board in 1993 and has served as secretary, vice president and president. He is currently serving as president of the Gulf Coast Area Association of School Boards. He joined the TASB Board in 1997 and has served as a member and chair of several committees and participated in the Association's Delegate Assembly and School Board Advocacy Network.

O'Brien, who was a veterinarian prior to retiring, has been active in several local booster clubs, Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce, alumni associations, the Coastal Conservation Association and sponsored local athletic teams. He is also a member of the local, state and national veterinary organizations. O'Brien was in private practice for 29 years and is a graduate of Texas A&M University.

TASB was established in 1949 to serve local Texas school districts. School Board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent have a combined annual budget of $28 billion, employ more than 560,000 people and serve more than four million students.
