Hamilton Middle School and Labay Middle School Named to Statewide Honor Roll

Hamilton Middle School and Labay Middle School, which was also honored in 2001, are among 118 schools in the state to be honored by Just for the Kids (JFTK) and the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) for academic performance over a three-year period. The schools will be honored at a November 20 reception and dinner at the Hyatt Regency Town Lake

Sixty-nine elementary schools, 36 middle schools and 13 high schools will send delegates to a "Share the Success" seminar and awards presentation. Honored schools were chosen as the most consistent performers in educating all student groups over a three-year period of time and rank highest in their individual peer groups, which are the schools across the state that most closely approximate their size and student population makeup.Honored schools met stringent criteria, including having TAAS scores from 2001 and 2002 and TAKS scores from 2003 compared with demographically similar schools and consistent high performance over three years with no significant difficulties in any separate grade, year or subject of the analysis.

Honored schools also had to meet "Adequate Yearly Progress" as determined by Texas Education Agency, with at least 95 percent of all students’ performance assessed on a standardized exam in 2003 (TAKS, RPTE, SDAA, or LDAA).

Just for the Kids (JFTK) is a non-profit data analysis and research organization founded in 1995 by Texas business leader Tom Luce. The organization’s purpose is to raise academic standards and increase student academic achievement in Texas. JFTK publishes information on how schools perform over time on its Web site at www.Just4Kids.org.
