Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Trustees honored Langham Creek High School teacher Tom Wurst during its January 15 board work session. Wurst recently received the Distinguished Teaching Award for 2003 from the National Council for Geographic Education.
Wurst is one of 24 K-through-12 teachers and nine university/college professors from the United States and Canada to receive this award. The Distinguished Teaching Award recognizes outstanding contributions to geographic education. Award winners were nominated by colleagues and were chosen by judging panels at the elementary, middle/junior high, senior high or post-secondary level.
It is a pleasure to have a teacher such as Tom teaching our students, said Mary Smith, coordinator of secondary social studies. He is a founding member of the Friends of Geography the local chapter of the National Geographic Society Education Foundation. Tom is a true advocate of geography.
