TRUSTEES RECOGNIZE ASSISTANT TO THE SUPERINTENDENT

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Trustees honored Dr. Cheryl Salyards, assistant to the superintendent, during the March 8 formal board meeting.

Salyards was recently presented the Texas Council of Administrators of Special Education’s (TCASE) Hall of Honor award. This is the highest honor given by the council to recognize members and former members who have made significant contributions to TCASE.

Salyards has served the association in multiple capacities. She has volunteered on numerous committees and served on the TCASE Executive Committee. She has also presided on the board as Vice President, President-Elect, President and Past President. In these roles, she chaired conference-planning committees and led the board through many major changes.

In addition, she has visited state and federal lawmakers, as well as representatives of the White House, to provide feedback on special education-related legislation affecting school districts and students. She provided public testimony and been involved in negotiations on bills to streamline special education processes and better enable school districts in the state to serve students with disabilities.
