CFISD VOLUNTEERS CAPTURE TOP AWARDS

Two Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District volunteers were recognized as state award winners during the Annual State Conference of the Texas Association of Partners in Education (TAPE) at the San Luis Conference Center in Galveston, February 4-6, 2004.

Abner “Benson” Vann was presented with the award for Outstanding Adult Volunteer for a large school district.  For more than five years, Vann has coached at-risk students at Campbell Middle School in the extracurricular Soccer Start program. He uses Soccer Start as a way to teach soccer and build self-esteem while preparing the players for the TAKS test.

The award for Outstanding Partnership Liaison for a large school district was presented to Richard Coleman. He was recognized for his five plus years of service to the students and staff of Windfern High School. Coleman serves on many school committees, is an active partner in the school’s Journey to Success luncheons, designed the school logo, and trains, mentors and employs students through his company, Richard Coleman and Associates.

More than 350 business leaders, educators, school board trustees, volunteers and community leaders attended the two-day conference sponsored by the state association and Galveston area local Partners in Education programs.
