After announcing the sole finalist for the position of superintendent of schools for the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District March 8, the Board of Trustees officially named Dr. David G. Anthony as superintendent during a special-called board meeting held March 31. He and his wife, Janie, were honored by CFISD trustees, district staff and community members with a reception in the Instructional Support Center later that evening.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to work in a district that reveres excellence in student performance, in a school district community that values education, with a Board that is committed to students, staff and community, and with a staff that has pride in what they do and in the district in which they work,” said Anthony.
Dr. Anthony, who has served as superintendent of schools for McKinney ISD since 1999, will begin his new role with Cypress-Fairbanks on July 1. He will be spending his vacation leave from McKinney working with district staff members in Cypress-Fairbanks. A plan was developed to minimize the transition period before his official start date.
Dr. William O’Brien, president of the Board of Trustees, explained that one of the reasons the Board established a timeline to name a superintendent in late March was for the new superintendent to have input into the major decisions that will be made this spring.
“Significant planning for the 2004-2005 school year, such as budget development, facilities planning, and staffing is already underway,” said Dr. O’Brien. “We want Dr. Anthony to have the opportunity to become familiar with the planning and decision-making processes that are currently in place prior to him assuming his duties officially in July.”
Dr. Anthony, 51, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education from East Texas Baptist College in 1974, a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from Northwestern State University in 1977 and a Doctor of Education degree from NSU in 1986.
