JERSEY VILLAGE STUDENT WINS SCHOLARSHIP IN CITY OF HOUSTON ESSAY CONTEST

Jersey Village High School senior Sarah Martinez won a $600 scholarship from the from the Pakistan-American Council of Texas by placing third in the City of Houston’s Public Service Recognition Week Essay Contest.

The City of Houston PSRW essay contest for high school seniors is a partnership between government and local businesses to promote excellent research and writing skills in our future leaders as well as to interest them in a public service career.

Houston area high school seniors were invited to write essays about a city of Houston job. The title of Martinez’s essay is “If I Were a Juvenile Abuse Investigator, What a Difference I would Make – Breaking the Cycle.” Martinez will accept her award during a May 4 ceremony at Houston’s Visitors Center in City Hall.

Mayor Bill White, Police Chief Harold Hurtt and KTRK-TV Channel 13’s Marvin Zindler will be on hand to recognize Martinez and the other four winners.
